Did you read my 3 part series about how to deal with your urges to binge eat? If not, do it! Here’s Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.
Take the time to apply what I taught in that series. If you don’t, or if you do but aren’t able to successfully not binge, then I want you to look at what you believe.
What do you believe about your ability to stop binge eating?
Be honest with yourself here.
It’s so important to understand because if you don’t believe you can, then you won’t.
If you believe you’ll never stop binge eating, then you’ll feel hopeless, you won’t even try to stop doing it, and then you won’t. Just by thinking you’ll never stop, you’ll prove to yourself that you won’t be able to.
The good news is, your beliefs about yourself are not facts.
Beliefs are thoughts you think over and over. These thoughts ultimately create all your results in life and those results end up giving you evidence to prove those thoughts true.
You’ve probably created a bunch of evidence that you can’t stop binge eating because you’ve tried and failed so many times.
But so what? Maybe you haven’t tried the way that will actually bring you success.
I tried for 10 years before I succeeded. The reason I was able to be successful was because I believed that I could.
I believed it, I felt hopeful, I tried a new way, and I stopped.
It all comes down to what you believe and it takes time and practice, but changing what you believe is definitely possible.
Figure out what you believe now and what results those beliefs are creating for you. You should know what results are coming from those beliefs so you can decide if those beliefs are serving you. Anything you want to change in your life must be changed at the belief level if you want the change to be permanent – you can’t just try to change your actions.
To find the result, first find the belief.
What thoughts do you think about yourself often? How do those thoughts make you feel and what kind of action you take when you feel that way while having those thoughts? And what is the result of you taking that action?
There you go.
So then how do you change your beliefs?
Find any evidence you’ve created that will prove to you that you are capable of not binge eating. Any single time you didn’t binge when you wanted to.
That’s proof right there for you.
Just because you haven’t been successful every time doesn’t mean you aren’t capable.
Decide what you want to believe and look for evidence to prove it.
Don’t give up on yourself.
