Dealing With Urges to Binge Eat Part 1 – Urge Thoughts

This part 1 of a 3 part topic! This is all about dismissing your urges and once you’re able to apply what I teach you, then not binge eating will be effortless.

I highly recommend you check out my Binge Eating Urges and Your Brain post or video first to gain a better understanding of why you can dismiss urges.

In this post and my next one, I’m talking about what goes on with your thinking. There are the thoughts that come with the urge and then the thoughts you choose.

Here I’m talking about the ones that come with the urge.

One reason why you binge eat is because you have an urge that makes a convincing argument and you go along with it.

I want you to think of the anything the urge says to you as “brain junk”.

Those thoughts are things like, “One binge won’t hurt” or “Just one last time” – things you don’t truly believe or want to do but the urge does.

When you’re not feeling the urge, these “urge thoughts” are the kinds of thoughts that are illogical to you because you know they’re not your truths or true wants. This means they do not deserve your attention as they are not coming from “you,” not the true you.

They are simply just sentences popping up in your mind, nothing more.

They are meaningless, powerless, and harmless and when you can shift your perspective to see them in this way then you will be better able to utilize your self-control when they appear.

Do know that these urge thoughts mean nothing about you nor do they mean you have to do anything.

Seriously, they don’t.

You get to decide how you want to respond to them.

Do you want to believe them? Will one binge hurt or do you want to do it just one last time? You can disagree!

If you know one binge will hurt and you really don’t want to do it at all, you can say no.

For now just pay attention to what some of your urge thoughts are that try and convince you to binge.

Write down any you have that aren’t in line with your true wants. When they pop up, you’ll know to recognize them as junk, garbage, rubbish, and not worth your time or energy.

Part 2 is about your thoughts, the ones you get to choose when the urge appears. Make sure you check it out because what you think when you feel an urge is so important!
