Your Fear of the Foods You Binge On

When you binge, what foods do you usually eat?

Are they foods you eat regularly or ones that you never allow yourself to eat? (Except when you binge of course).

A lot of the time the foods we binge on are ones that we’re afraid to eat either because we believe we’ll binge on them, or they’re unhealthy and we think they will ruin our attempts at managing our weight or being healthy.

There is a fear of these “binge foods”.

You’re afraid you’ll binge on them because you have many times before.

This is you looking into your past to predict your future. This is not how you change your future, it keeps you repeating the same behaviors again and again.

Just because you’ve binged on those foods before, no matter how many times, doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it.

You could not binge on your most common binge food again.

Do you think that statement is false?

You only will if you don’t believe you have the ability to never binge on that food again.

You’re looking at what you’ve done before without considering what you’re capable of in the future.

Your fear is driving you to binge on those foods. You’re creating that fear by believing you’ll always binge on them.

Living in fear of any food is not a way to live.

You clearly have a strong desire for the foods you binge on. You want to eat them and saying you can’t and not allowing yourself to have them sometimes is going to lead to rebellious overeating.

If you eliminate foods like these from your diet, you’re essentially taking something pleasurable out of your life. That’s not fair to you.

Also, be honest with yourself. You say you won’t ever eat them, but when you binge you do, so you never really do eliminate them.

Instead of placing this restriction on yourself, allow yourself to eat them sometimes.

I’m not going to lie, this is not an easy endeavor. It’s one that requires planning and decision making before you eat.

When are you going to eat this food and how much of it?

This needs to be decided before you put one bite in your mouth and you need to stick to your decision no matter how you feel when the times comes to stop. You must honor your decision.

You must face your fears and overcome them.

You can either be afraid of your binge foods forever or you can learn to be around them. You can learn to eat them in smaller amounts. You can erase the fear and feel calm around food.

You can choose to create a new future with these foods rather than keep repeating your past with them.
