This may sound like a question that has an obvious answer, but it’s really not.
Everyone has a different answer. Everyone is affected by their bad eating habits in different ways.
There is no one reason why everyone would want to stop.
It’s important for you to know why you personally want to stop because if you don’t know why, then you won’t feel driven to do it.
You have to have a compelling reason that is going to keep you motivated even in the toughest of times.
A common mistake people make when looking for their compelling reason, or their “big why,” is looking at what they don’t want instead of what they do want.
They don’t want to feel out of control around food.
They don’t want to feel ashamed or embarrassed.
They don’t want to struggle with their weight.
But what DO they want?
Yes, you hate what you’re doing now and how your life is affected, but what do you expect to get and how will your life improve when you’re not doing it anymore?
Stay away from statements that include “won’t,” “don’t” or “not.”
What will you have? What will you do? How will you feel?
Each time an urge to binge eat rears its ugly head, thinking about what you will get if you don’t binge eat is what will keep you from giving in, not thinking about the reasons why you hate that you are feeling an urge to do it. When you feel an urge and you focus on how you hate that you have to deal with this, you feel defeated or upset, and you give in.
You’ll continue to feel badly about yourself and nothing will change.
But, if you think about the ways your life will improve if you don’t binge eat, you will feel motivated and driven to not give in and binge, and then you won’t.
Focusing on all the great things that will come from not binge eating anymore will cause you to feel excited about stopping and you’ll do the work necessary to make it happen.
Why is it important that you stop binge eating? What will be better in your life if you stop?
Answer these questions and use those answers to push you in the direction toward making a binge free life possible for you.
