Losing Weight While Binge Eating

Are you trying to lose weight, but are having a hard time because your binge eating keeps ruining all your hard work?

Not all people who binge eat have issues with their weight as well, but a lot do.

It’s part of what keeps you in the binge cycle.

You want to lose weight, so you restrict your food intake, you end up binge eating because of the restriction, and then you either stay at the same weight or gain more.

Losing weight while still binge eating is close to impossible for most people.

I struggled with my weight for as long as I was binge eating. It was always fluctuating and there was a number on the scale that I just couldn’t get past before I’d mess it all up with binge eating and my weight would go back up. It seemed like I’d never reach my goal weight. Then one year, I was finally able to do it.

It took months and months of calorie restriction and intense exercise, but I made it happen.

Once I got there, I thought I was all better because I had hit my goal finally and I couldn’t have been happier.

But then I gained it all back.

Months of hard work, my feeling of accomplishment, being at my goal weight, all down the drain because I didn’t actually change my bad eating habits.

My brain never stopped wanting me to binge eat.

I was able to fight it while I was losing, and there were definitely times when I did binge while losing, but I never truly dealt with it, I just managed it for awhile.

The binge eating began again, all my unhealthy eating habits returned, and I was back to square one.

Now, years later, I’m at a healthy, happy weight and maintaining isn’t a struggle.

Why?

Because I don’t binge eat anymore and I’ve cleaned up how my brain responds to food.

If weight loss is possible while you’re still binge eating, it will most likely be a struggle, and not one that will simply end once you hit your goal weight.

We tend to think that we’ll eat in a restrictive way to lose weight, then eat more normally to maintain it, and binge eating will simply just go away.

That’s sounds like a good idea, but it’s not usually how it works out.

The more realistic solution here, is to stop binge eating first.

If you’re trying to lose weight and you’re binge eating, save yourself a lot of stress and focus only on stopping binge eating for now.

I know all the worries you might be having as you think about doing that, how if you stop trying to lose weight then you’ll gain weight. But  look at what’s going on with you right now as you try to do both. Are you losing weight permanently?

Binge eating is what gets in the way of you being where you want to be, and not just physically but emotionally as well. Binge eating is holding you back, it’s a big obstacle.

It’s time to remove it.

And yes, it can be removed. I know a lot of people are convinced that they will have to deal with this forever, but I couldn’t disagree more. I think everyone is capable of stopping as long as they’re willing to put in the work to make it happen. I honestly believe that.

Don’t allow yourself to spend your life thinking you have no choice but to deal with being a binge eater.
